Westgate Corporation is accepting applications from teachers inside and outside Japan for its spring 2027 university English programs.

Spring contract: Late March or early April to late July 2027, lasting three to five months

Teaching and Requirements

  • Teach practical English communication at universities in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, or Aichi, including the Nagoya area
  • Full Monday–Friday availability; daily start and finish times vary
  • Schedules may include five to seven 40–45-minute lessons or two to three 90–100-minute lessons per day
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required
  • EFL/ESL certificates and classroom experience welcome; other teaching experience may be considered
  • No Japanese language requirement

Applicants with a master’s degree or higher and at least three years, or six terms, of university or community-college teaching experience are also encouraged to apply.

Pay and Support

  • Starting monthly salary of ¥280,000 for holders of CELTA, DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, Trinity DipTESOL, or a master’s degree or higher
  • Starting monthly salary of ¥270,000 for other applicants
  • Working visa sponsorship available
  • Optional housing costs ¥81,000 monthly for a private room in a social residence or ¥98,000 for a studio apartment
  • Renewable contracts may be available
  • Eligible overseas hires may receive up to US$1,200 airfare reimbursement: US$600 inbound and US$600 outbound

Flights require approval before purchase and must meet Westgate’s travel dates and times. Arrival must be at Haneda or Narita. Return reimbursement is available only to instructors who entered Japan on a reimbursable inbound flight at the start of the spring contract.

Computer Requirements

Teachers supply their own computer and may need to bring a laptop to campus. The ad specifies an Intel Core i5 or Apple M1 processor or better, at least 8 GB RAM, internet of at least 10 Mbps, Bluetooth 4.0 or later, Windows 11 25H2 or newer or macOS Sequoia 15 or newer, and a supported current browser. A webcam, microphone, active antivirus, current Adobe Acrobat Reader, and agreement to install required applications are also needed. Chromebooks are not accepted; other operating systems require prior confirmation. A mobile device for Microsoft Authenticator is recommended.
